What to put on a Middle Eastern restaurant menu

  1. 1

    Cold mezze

Hummus, muhammara, tabbouleh. Say they come with bread, so guests know what to scoop with.

  2. 2

    Hot mezze

Falafel, halloumi, kibbeh. Mark the vegetarian ones, so vegetarian guests see how much they can order.

  3. 3

    Grills

Skewers and whole fish. Say what comes on the plate, like toum and sumac onions.

  4. 4

    Flatbreads

Baked to order. Name the topping: za'atar, cheese or spiced lamb.

  5. 5

    Sweets and tea

Two or three sweets and mint tea by the pot. Say if the tea comes sweetened.

Before you print the QR code

  • The batata harra and lamb kofta are marked spicy.
  • Sesame in the tahini, and nuts in the muhammara and baklava, are labeled.
  • Dishes with yogurt or cheese, like the labneh, aren't marked vegan.

Edits go live on the same link, so a printed code keeps working. Read the setup guide

Questions about a Middle Eastern restaurant menu

How many mezze should a table order?

Two or three per person is a common start. Saying so on the menu helps first-time guests.

Should hot and cold mezze be separate?

Yes. Cold ones come out fast, so guests can order them first while the hot ones cook.

Should I say the meat is halal?

If all your meat is halal, say so once at the top. Only claim it if your supplier certifies it.
